Meet Jennifer Gould Andrew and Amanda Lee, Canadian Certified Pedorthists.
Jennifer - My path to becoming a pedorthist started as a patient with knee and heel pain. When orthotics helped me, I trained for 3 years to become a Pedorthist after completing my Kinesiology degree from the University of Waterloo. I worked at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic in London, ON for 12 years before moving to Fredericton in 2009. I have worked closely with orthopedic surgeons, sport medicine and family physicians, physiotherapists, massage therapists, osteopaths, and chiropractors. I consider myself an important part of a team approach.
In addition to helping patients, I am an instructor for the Diploma in Pedorthics offered through Western University, and a supervisor and mentor for upcoming Pedorthists since 2001. I was a Director for the Pedorthic Association for a total of 12 years. This has all helped me stay on top of current trends in my profession and continues to provide me with ongoing learning.
Amanda - I became interested in Pedorthics after completing graduate studies at UNB. I had recently graduated and was working as a research coordinator in a cardiometabolic and lifestyle lab at the UNB Fredericton campus. While I loved research, the role was not for me, and I began searching for a dynamic career that would include research, in-person communication, and hands-on projects. After nearly two years of internship under the supervision of Jennifer, one year of the Western University Diploma Program, and several certification exams, I am proud to call myself a Canadian Certified Pedorthist!
My education includes a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from UNB, a Masters of Science in Exercise and Sports Science from UNB, and a Diploma in Pedorthics from Western University. I also hold a certification as a Certified Exercise Physiologist through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), and diplomas in Pilates Mat and Reformer.
When I am not at the clinic, you can find me teaching Pilates classes at UNB and studios downtown, walking with my dog, at the gym, or keeping up with the latest Pedorthic research!
